JIMTOWN FOOTBALL DEFENSIVE LEADERS 1980-2000

Footnote on tackle stats: There has been two different ways of gathering tackle statistics since 1980. From 1980 to 1990 a system was used that gave a "solo" tackle to player that had the primary hit and additional players could get credited with "assists" on the same play who made secondary hits. Since 1991, all tackle statistics that have been gathered used the National Federation standard of crediting tackles; that is a "solo" tackle is just that. Only one person can be credited with a solo tackle on one play. A assist is given to as many as three players when more than one person is responsible for a tackle. As you can see from the tackle leaders that has been posted here, I felt compelled to split tackle leaders into two different eras since it wouldn't be fair to the players from 1991 on when the system for crediting tackles was changed and their tackle numbers are way lower than in the past.
