TOP 10 ACCOMPLISHMENTS

At his retirement news conference Thursday, Penn High School football coach Chris Geesman passed out a list of 10 accomplishments he thought were special over his 30 years with the Kingsmen.

10. Northern Indiana Conference win streak of 114 games (1985-present).

9. State records -- 89-game regular-season win streak (1985-96), 22-game playoff win streak (1995-98).

8. Named top program in state since 1994 by the Indianapolis Star, both in number of wins (104) and winning percentage (92).

7. Finishing in Top 10 of state rankings 25 times and being ranked nationally by USA Today (and others) 12 times.

6. "Feeding Frenzy at Freed Field.'' Record at home the last 20 years: 117-9. Only six times in 30 years have we lost more than one game at home.

5. Wins at Penn (310, 339 overall), 16 undefeated regular seasons, five state championships.

4. In the last 20 seasons, we've finished our season in Indianapolis 40 percent of the time (eight seasons); in the last 14 years, 50 percent (seven); in the last eight seasons, 62.5 percent (five).

3. A few other factoids: We've won 30 consecutive Homecoming games (keeping the alums happy), have only lost to a team with more than one loss once in the last 17 years (none in the last 12) and have been undefeated in junior varsity football (not including "C'' team games) since the second game of the 1985 season (142-0).

2. More than 225 young men went on to play college football.

1. I am most proud of and grateful for the relationships developed and friendships made along the way, from media, fans, opposing coaches, fellow teachers, staff and administrators -- to all my associate coaches and their families. And especially to the 1,000 tough kids who made the Penn football program what it is, and who are mainly responsible for everything listed above.
